NC SC SHRINE BOWL

  • Facebook

The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas was created to provide an opportunity to high school athletes from both NC and SC to participate in an all‐star football game. Since 1937, Shriners from North and South Carolina have been involved and supported the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas is the oldest and most prestigious high school all‐star football game in America. What makes this event unique is that it is completely run and organized by Shrine volunteers.  This game is played for the purpose of raising money for the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Shriners Hospitals for Children is a one-of-a-kind international health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family‐centered environment, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization they rely on the generous donations of Shriners and the general public to carry out their mission.

Each year, senior sports medicine student assistants help provide athletic training services to the student-athletes involved in the Shrine Bowl.  Participants are seniors in a NCHSAA public high school.  They go through an application process by which they provide an essay answer and 3 letters of recommendation.  During the week of the Shrine bowl, the students attend every event that the football team is involved with.  This includes all practices, meals, and a trip to the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, SC.  It is truly an honor to be selected to serve on the medical staff as you will be learning from some of the best in the business and taking care of some of the most elite athletes that NC and SC have to offer.
